After the excitement of the season had died down, a few Mexico wrestlers are being reminded of some of their accomplishments.

The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs competed at the North Central Missouri Conference meet in early January, earning all-conference nods but didn’t have their results and awards finalized until recently. For the boys, freshman Carlos Juarez Ramirez and junior Grant Van Horn made the first team while freshman Brayden Arnold and senior Emille Scanavino were second team. For the girls, junior Alizabeth Welch and sophomore Alexus Johns were first team while sophomore Abby Bowen, freshman Alyssa Knight and senior Karisa Hayden were all second team.

The Bulldogs finished third as a team, led by their first-team 106-pounder Juarez Ramirez and 157-pounder Van Horn. Juarez was 5-0 in conference, 38-8 this season, a district champion and a state runner-up to go with an academic all-state selection. Van Horn was 5-0 in conference, 40-7 this season, a district champion and a state runner-up along with his third academic all-state selection.

Arnold was second team at 113 pounds along with a 4-1 conference record, 24-15 season record, a third-place district medalist, state qualifier and academic all-state selection. Scanavino was second team at 285 pounds to go with 4-1 conference record, 39-12 season record, a district champion, a sixth-place state medalist and an academic all-state selection.

The Lady Bulldogs finished second as a team, beating Fulton for the first time ever and losing to champion Marshall despite winning five out of eight wrestled matches. Welch and Johns were first team at 105 and 235 pounds, respectively, while Bowen at 130, Knight at 135 and Hayden at 190 made the second team.
