Mexico can't overcome mistakes in Highway 54 loss to Fulton, downed 4-2

Mexico wasn't able to defeat Walker Gohring and the Hornets or themselves on Friday. The Fulton pitcher struck out nine Bulldogs and allowed four hits, and Mexico committed three errors (after tallying five errors in its a 14-8 loss at Fulton earlier this year) to allow four unearned runs to score in the sixth inning to lose 4-2 at home. The Hornets clinched their first North Central Missouri Conference champion in 22 years.

Tyler Thoenen had an RBI double, Sam Ryan, Drew DeMint and Austin Maxwell each had hits, and Landyn Kleinsorge allowed 0 earned runs on four hits and one walk in 5 1/3 innings pitched while striking out three. Maxwell added 1 2/3 shutout innings in relief with two hits and two strikeouts.

“Our pitching came through and threw strikes,” head coach Daniel McCarty said. “We gave them eight outs. With a team like that who in their two-strike approach will throw their hands to the ball to the right side, we have to be able to defend that at all times. We can only control what we can control.”
