Mexico girls golf head coach Layne Ray has seen this camaraderie before.
The Lady Bulldog from 2010-14 is coaching five girls in 2022-23, including returning state qualifier and senior Kennedi Rowe and three newcomers.
Rowe is joined again by Alexis Henderson, who will each be leaders to newcomers Reagan Craig, Ella Connell and Helen Waller.
“This group has so much fun together and they remind me of when I played in high school, 2010-2014, with Lindsey Yancey as my coach,” Ray said. “We always had a great time together and there was never a dull moment. There are too many great memories to narrow it down.”
Rowe finished 37th last year in the Class 2 state meet at Columbia Country Club in what was her first state appearance.
“Kennedi's ultimate goal is to make it to state and she will do whatever it takes to meet that goal,” Ray said. “She has been staying late after practice is over to hit the driving range and perfect her swing. Rowe is a great leader to our newcomers.”
Mexico competes Aug. 29 at Oak Hills Golf Course in Jefferson City to start the season.
“These girls have already shown great sportsmanship and dedication. I am eager to get our season started and see the progress the girls will make.”
