After winning some tough fights this week, the Mexico girls couldn’t go any further.
The Lady Bulldogs lost the Class 4 District 8 championship game on Friday night in Fulton to North Central Missouri Conference foe and top seed Moberly 74-30. Mexico earned its third meeting with the eighth-ranked Lady Spartans after two down-to-the-wire victories in the tournament against Wright City and Fulton, by respective scores of 64-61 and 51-46.
“Things just didn’t click in this game like they did on Wednesday,” head coach Makenzie Mudd said. “We were tired from two tough games this week and shots weren’t falling for us.”
Moberly (26-2) won their second straight district championship on their fifth straight win against the Lady Bulldogs.
Senior Jo Thurman led Mexico with 12 points, Claire Hudson followed with seven points and senior Karlee Sefrit added five points.
Mudd led the Lady Bulldogs in her first season as the head coach to a 12-16 record to follow up a 9-18 campaign. Mexico was able to play for a district title for the first time since 2021.
“I am so proud of my team for continuing to fight until the very end,” Mudd said. “This whole season has had its ups and downs, but I am very impressed with every player and the growth that they have shown in order to make it to the district championship game this season.
