On Sunday, February 5, 2023 at approximately 7:52PM, the Mexico Public Safety Department responded to the 900 block of E Jackson in reference to a house fire. Responding personnel found fire in two rooms and the hallway in the upstairs portion of the home. The fire was contained and extinguished in that area with the second story of the home suffering significant fire damage and the main story having water damage. It was determined the fire was caused by one of the children in the home playing with fire then being unable to put it out. There were no injuries from the event. One family cat did die during the fire.

On Monday, February 6, 2023 at approximately 12:50AM, the Mexico Public Safety Department responded to the 900 block of N Kentucky in reference to a house fire. Responding personnel found flame coming from the attached garage of the home. The fire had already spread to a 2016 Dodge pick-up truck and a 2002 Cougar camper trailer, both parked in the driveway. Fire had also already reached numerous items in the yard and a nearby privacy fence. The fire was contained and extinguished with significant damage to the garage area and items in the yard. The kitchen of the home also suffered fire damage. The rest of the home suffered smoke and heat damage. The cause of the fire appeared to be careless disposal of smoking material. There were no injuries from the incident.
