Mexico’s Annual Spring Cleanup will be held on Saturdays during the month of April. People who are current residential refuse customers and regular pickup day is Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday, the cleanup day will be Saturday, April 1; those who have aregular trash pickup day on Monday or Thursday, will have cleanup day on Saturday, April 8.
· All items must be placed at the curb no sooner than the night before or by 6:00 a.m. on the assigned days. To avoid a nuisance, do not place out any sooner.
· Place items to be picked up at curbside.
· Small items must be placed in trash cans, trash bags, sturdy boxes or other containers no larger than a garbage can. Small loose items will not be picked up!
The following items WILL NOT be picked up during Spring Cleanup:
· Tires and Petroleum Products
· Any type of Insecticides, Pesticides, Poisons, Polishes, Sharps or Blood Products
· Antifreeze, Transmission/Power Steering Fluids, Brake Fluids, Enamel/Oil Based Paints and Thinners/Stains/Finishes
These items are accepted at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility located at 201 S. Morris Street: Any type of Insecticides, Pesticides, Poisons, Cleaners, Disinfectants, Polishes, Antifreeze, Transmission/Power Steering Fluids, Brake Fluids, Enamel/Oil Based Paints and Thinners/Stains/Finishes. This is a free drop-off service to Mexico residents by appointment only and are scheduled on the second and fourth Wednesdays during the months of April – October, 12 noon to 3 p.m. To schedule an appointment, please call 573-581-2100 ext. 315.
Appliance Pickup will be provided for city residents during the Spring Cleanup. Each household will be allowed two appliances. Those appliances that contain a compressor and/or refrigerant, the compressors and refrigerant must be removed from the appliance by a State certified technician and properly tagged. Contact your local heating and cooling dealers for cost and scheduling information. If the appliance is not tagged and the compressor removed, the appliance will not be picked up. Please place the tag in a protected covering to prevent weather damage. If the tag cannot be read, the appliance will not be picked up.
Bulky items such as boards, plywood, other building materials and similar household refuse such as cardboard, clothes, newspaper, magazines are to be securely tied in bundles. Bundles shall not exceed five feet in length, twenty inches in diameter and not exceed fifty pounds in weight.
Brush, limbs, leaves and grass clippings are not to be mixed with normal household waste. Citizens may take them to the Brush Yard at 104 South Kentucky is (on the back side of the Community Maintenance Building and can be accessed only from South Kentucky). During summer hours the Brush Yard is open Tuesdays – Fridays from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 4 - 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (closed Sundays and Mondays). Residents are to remove any bags used to transport the materials. No commercial waste, stumps, or non-conforming material will be accepted.
