Mexico, Centralia and North Callaway all had representation in Wednesday afternoon's Class 1 girls state wrestling meet. Mexico's Alexus Johns and Centralia's Jayci Shelton will wrestle in the semifinals for their respective weight classes Thursday morning at about 10:15 a.m. to figure out which state medal will be the first of their careers.

As the No. 1 ranked girl in Class 1 at 235 pounds, Johns pinned both of her opponents in the first period to advance to the second day, unlike her state appearance last year as a freshman. Katie Bowen (115 pounds) saw her high school career end in the second round of wrestlebacks after losses of 6-4 and 5-2 to 40-match winners Macey Greene, of Holden, and Carlynn Mynatt, of Marshfield, finishing her career as the program's all-time wins leader with a 20-9 record this shortened season. Abby Bowen (135) was pinned with seconds left in the match and then lost 6-1 in the first round of wrestlebacks to end her season at 41-14.

As the No. 1 ranked wrestler in Class 1 at 155 pounds, Shelton needed just over a minute to pin her first opponent and then pinned her second in less than a minute to stay undefeated at 40-0 and clinch a state medal.

Giboney was pinned in her first state match ever and then avoided a pinfall loss by still fell short via a 10-0 major decision in first round wrestlebacks to El Dorado Springs' Aleah Conard. Both of Giboney's losses happened at hands of 40-match winners while Giboney wraps up this season at 20-15.
