Mexico’s Aidan Knipfel went into Thursday third in the overall point standings for the Missouri Junior Tour’s 16-18-year-old boys group. He just missed the top three in Fulton.
In a Missouri Golf Association tournament at Tanglewood Golf Course, Knipfel shot a 79, or seven-over par, to take fourth place right behind California’s William Boyd, who shot a 78. The top four finishers were separated by four strokes.
Knipfel limited his holes of at least a bogey to five and picked up pars everywhere else. He had two double-bogeys in two of the first four holes but didn’t finish any worse the rest of the way, having six of the next seven holes ending in a par and the final four holes on the back nine ending the same way.
For the front nine, Knipfel had a score of 41, or five-over par, while he shot a 38, or two-over par on the back nine.
Hermann’s Trigg Lindahl had the top score of 75, or three-over par, to take first place over Eldon’s Teagen Hull by one stroke after sinking an eagle on the par five 18th hole. Hull went into Thursday with the lead in the overall tour standings at 95 points, which was 38 points ahead of Knipfel’s 57.
Centralia’s Adam Smith finished 15th with a score of 101, or 29-over par.
For the 16-18-year-old girls group, Centralia’s ReaLee Smith and Kennedy Dickerson finished sixth and seventh, respectively, out of eight finishers. Smith shot an 83, or 11-over par, and Dickerson had a 91, or 19-over par.
Smith had her best and worst on the front nine, shooting six of her nine bogeys and two of her three birdies on the holes. She started with two bogeys and then two triple-bogeys before sinking back-to-back birdies on the fifth and sixth holes for an eventual score of 44, or eight-over par. On the back nine, Smith had a 39, or three-over par, picking up a birdie on the par four 10th hole.
Dickerson had six bogeys each on the front and back nine holes, finishing with a front score of 48, or 12-over par, and back score of 43, or seven-over par. She also had a birdie on the 10th hole.
Going into Thursday, Dickerson was third in the tour point standings with 66 points, and Smith was sixth with 49 points. Jefferson City’s Camryn Swinfard led the tour with 130 points.
