DJ Long will go down in Mexico boys basketball history as one of its best.
After making the North Central Missouri Conference team and being named the Class 4 District 8 player of the year, the senior was selected to the Class 4 all-state team on Wednesday.
Long earned his first career all-state selection after impressing the coaches who voted for the honors with his season leading the Bulldogs to a No. 6 finish in the Class 4 state polls, a place Mexico found itself all season. As the point guard, Long served as the important floor general for a team that finished 27-3 and was one win away from the state Final Four, losing to state champion Vashon.
Long surpassed 1,500 career points in his three years with Mexico and one with Van-Far, topping out at 1,614 points. He also finished his career with 425 rebounds, 407 assists and 210 steals while helping the Bulldogs play to a 73-14 record and two district titles in three years.
