Missouri Military Academy basketball has above-average season

The Missouri Military Academy basketball team wrapped up this season with two straight losses to South Callaway but accomplished much prior to that.

The second defeat eliminated the Colonels from districts but not before they won 10 games to finish the season 10-15, making it the third time in 20 years the program reached double-digit victories, according to head coach Roger Siwak.

This season was Siwak’s first season with MMA and this was many players’ first season in competitive basketball. After two seasons that closed with six wins, Siwak led the Colonels to their first double-digit season since its 12-11 record in 2020, which followed a 14-11 record in 2011.

Senior Albert Ogutu was one of those rare returning players that ended up being MMA’s lone all-district player for Class 3 District 7. Ogutu averaged 15.9 points per game and shot 64 percent from the field.

Junior Nathan Dempsey was another Colonel with prior experience and finished at 11 points per game and shot 67 percent from the free throw line while being the team’s best 3-point shooter. The 6-foot-2 Mongolian senior Tsengeg Bayasgalan averaged 11.2 points and shot 59 percent from the line.
