Missouri Military Academy notched win No. 1 Thursday.
The Colonels brought the intensity to win at Moberly 3-0. Guillermo Banuelos scored two goals to lead MMA, and Kellan Mugisha added another.
Head coach Eliot Goodwin said and has said the Colonels have struggled in close games as they did Tuesday at Warrenton but made sure they wouldn’t be playing catchup this time.
“It was great to get the early lead in the game with a quick goal from Banuelos,” Goodwin said. “I tasked the boys to play with high intensity, discipline and create positivity, and they stood up to every task.”
After taking a 1-0 lead out of halftime, Mugisha scored his goal halfway through the second half before sealing it with Banuelos’ second score.
MMA plays its first home game at 5 p.m. Tuesday against Kirksville.
The MMA junior varsity team won 4-1 afterward for its second win, with two goals coming from Enock Runazi and one each from Cyprian Mutinyu and Sebastian Rocha Alvarado.
