Murray and Gail Purcell

Posted

Join us on Sunday Oct. 22, 2023 from 2 -4:30 pm at the Audrain County Historical Society: Graceland Museum as we celebrate the lives of Murray and Gail Purcell. Gail passed away on April 3, 2020 during the initial stages of the Covid 19 pandemic, which postponed holding her memorial service. As the weeks and months of the pandemic continued, it was decided to hold a joint memorial service when Murray would join Gail in the afterlife. Murray continued to live on his own with support from family and friends until he passed on June 30, 2023.

We selected October 22, to coincide with Mizzou Homecoming weekend. Attending an annual Mizzou game has been a family tradition for several decades, which the family hopes to continue and honor.

Sunday, October 22, is a chance for us to celebrate Murray and Gail’s lives and impact on Mexico. They were married on July 13,1957, in St Louis and moved to Mexico. Murray worked at A.P. Greens until his retirement, while Gail taught in the Mexico School system including the implementation of the early childhood development program. Gail’s passion for teaching had a positive impact on many in the Mexico community. They were active members of The First Christian Church, Audrain County Historical Society and many other local organizations.

Please join us as we celebrate Murray and Gail’s lives; share stories, reflect on the impact they made in Mexico’s history and honor them both. No service will be performed, just an informal gathering with lite refreshments.
