When the voters of Audrain County go to the polls on Tuesday, April 4 they will be using an upgraded voting machine.
Audrain County Clerk Lisa Smith says the old voting machines were ten years old and needed to be replaced. "These machines are a lot faster and they have been updated with more security features."
A grant in the amount of $11,000 was received by the Audrain County Clerk's office recently. That money was used towards the purchase of 19 new voting machines and Audrain County received over $20,000 in discounts on a trade-in for the old voting machines.
The cost of a regular new voting machine was $5,165. while an ADA compliant machine cost $3,115. Smith says the new machines were not just purchased for security and speed, however will be easier for the election judges to set up.
Absentee voting is already underway in Audrain County and will end on April 3, 2023 at 5pm.
