For the second time in as many games, the North Callaway boys had a bad fourth quarter.
The Thunderbirds were outscored 21-8 on Friday by New Bloomfield to lose their Courtwarming game 56-48, giving up a 40-35 lead after three quarters. North Callaway posted season-worst clips at the free-throw line and in 3-point territory, going a respective 8-for-17 and 2-for-17.
Head coach Matt Miller said the problem is the same for North Callaway (3-8) after it lost 73-65 at another Callaway County rival South Callaway three days prior. The Thunderbirds were outscored 26-5 in the fourth quarter.
“If you let any team hang around, bad things can happen,” Miller said. “We have to play with confidence.”
Isiah Craighead, who was named the Courtwarming king to go with queen Abrielle Burgher, led the Thunderbirds with 16 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Clayton Moore followed with nine points, and leading scorer Sam Pezold was held to eight points and recorded his fourth personal foul in the third quarter to limit his time on the floor.
New Bloomfield (5-8) was led by the Fuhriman brothers of Nate, who had 24 points and three 3-pointers, and Jake, who followed with 15 points.
