Pair of North Callaway milestone girls pick up pair of awards

Riley Blevins and Natalie Shryock each scored their 1,000 career point this season, but their recognition for the North Callaway girls wasn’t over.

Blevins and Shryock each made the all-Eastern Missouri Conference team — Blevins on the first team and Shryock on the second team — and both were selected to the Class 3 District 7 team. They led North Callaway to a seven-year-best 18-9 record.

Blevins scored her 1,000th point in the Ladybirds’ Senior Night victory over Wright City and then closed her three-year North Callaway career — after transferring from Mexico — with the two awards. She averaged 12.4 points per game for the team lead along with Shryock and also tied Abrielle Burgher with a team-best 5.8 rebounds, and had team-bests of 5 assists, 2.9 steals and 2.1 blocks. Blevins shot 39 percent from the floor, 30 percent on 3-pointers while making 53 of them, and 76 percent on free throws.

Shryock averaged 3.7 rebounds while being North Callaway’s most effective shooter, which brought her to her 1,000th point as a junior in the Ladybirds’ season-ending district loss to Hermann. She shot 39 percent on 3-pointers, while making 79 of them, and 84 percent on free throws.

Pezold, Craighead bring senior leadership, all-conference nods to North Callaway boys

The North Callaway boys thought they would rely on their seniors heading into the season.

Two of them — Sam Pezold and Isiah Craighead — stood out enough to be named to the Eastern Missouri Conference team. Pezold was a unanimous first-team member while Craighead also made the first team, and both of them made the Class 3 District 7 team.

“It was well-deserved for both of them as the two leaders on our team they both carried us every night,” head coach Matt Miller said. “They each had amazing high school careers in our program. They're both great young men and will have success in whatever they choose to do in life because of their attitude and work ethic.”

Pezold set numerous school records this season, including the all-time scoring and steals record, the single-season steals record and tied the career 3-pointers record. He averaged 16.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.4 steals while hitting 64 3-pointers and shooting 78 percent from the free-throw line.

Craighead averaged 13.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.2 steals while shooting 52 percent from the field.
