Oscar Ray Black, 84, of Columbia, passed away on Monday, Aug. 29, 2022, at his home.

Private graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Oscar was born on Nov. 26, 1937, the son of Thomas H. and Helen G. (Brandenburg) Black. On March 30, 1971, at Kentucky Road Christian Church in Mexico, he married Marjie Kay Jones.

Mr. Black was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for the University of Missouri, retiring in 2000.

Oscar was a Nascar fan and had traveled to Talladega and Daytona. He also enjoyed going to tractor pulls and taking road trips and tours with his wife.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Marjie Kay Black of the home; one sister, Betty Potts of Springfield; brother, Jerry (Cindy) Black of Evergreen, Colorado; brothers-in-law, Gerald Lee Jones of Thompson and Fred Branham of Mexico; and one sister-in-law, Sandy Black of Mexico.

Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charles T. Black and William (Bill) Black; two sisters, Mary Sue Branham and Linda Baldwin; two brothers-in-law, William (Bill) Potts and Eugene Baldwin; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Edith Black and Irene Louise Gordon.

Memorial donations may be made to the donor’s choice.
