Centralia’s Bailey Pace is earning medals at a rate that usually precedes a long season.
In two events so far this season, Pace has won two medals after shooting a 45 on Aug. 31 at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton and finishing with a 43 on Thursday at Heritage Hills Golf Club in Moberly.
Pace qualified for the Class 1 state meet last year at Silo Ridge Golf and Country Club in Bolivar along with her other teammates as the Lady Panthers earned a third-place trophy. As an individual, Pace was 21st, just missing all-state honors.
The meet at Tanglewood involved Harrisburg, Blair Oaks and Hallsville with Harrisburg winning with a team score of 217 and Centralia finishing fourth with a 237. Cami Moser had the second best score for the Lady Panthers with a 60, and three others each shot a 66.
The three Centralia freshmen — Olivia Morris, Jace Brown and Kyla Spickert — had the top three scores in the junior varsity competition with respective figures of 56, 57 and 59.
In the Westran-hosted event in Moberly that involved Paris, Westran and Cairo, Centralia finished with a team score of 219 to fall behind Cairo but had Pace and two others have scores lower than 60. Morris shot a 56, and Moser had a 59.
The Lady Panthers junior varsity had a team score of 257, which was led by Brown’s and AJ Barte’s 62.
Paris’ three girls golfers were packed together in the standings on Thursday.
Miranda Billings had Paris’ top score of 65. Riley McKinney and Maddie Heinicke were each right behind her as they shot a 66.
Centralia and Paris compete in the Paris Invitational today.
