Paris softball couldn’t stay sharp in all aspects of their game in the midst of its four games in as many days, but the offense stayed potent.
The Lady Coyotes won 14-4 Tuesday at Mark Twain while also leaving 16 runners on base, and then came up short Wednesday at home against South Shelby, when shaky defense led to a 14-9 loss.
In the two games, Kennedy Ashenfelter drove in a combined seven RBI while pitching seven innings with two earned runs and nine strikeouts at Mark Twain. In the same span, Reese Sutton was 4-for-7 with three RBI, two walks and a home run.
Head coach Collin Huffman said Paris’ offense Tuesday was impressive despite the runners left on base as Sophia Crusha finished 3-for-5 with three RBI. Huffman was pleased the offense carried into Wednesday against South Shelby as the Lady Coyotes had five extra base hits but thinks other areas lacked because of the amount of action this week.
“We struggled defensively, which I think was because of this being our third game in a row with a young squad,” Huffman said. “Credit to South Shelby for getting bunts down and putting pressure on our defense.”
Paris moved to 2-2 after Wednesday and traveled to district foe and reigning district champion Cairo on Thursday before hosting North Shelby on Tuesday.
