Since the Paris girls started limiting opponents to 30 points or less in the last six games, they have been victorious.
That was true on Friday night at home when the Lady Coyotes defeated Lewis and Clark Conference foe Scotland County 57-26, making it their fifth victory in six games for their best stretch this season. In each of those wins, Paris has held opponents to 30 points or less and only has a 52-44 Feb. 6 loss at Westran during that time.
Paris (10-13, 3-5 L&C) came out hot against Scotland County (3-17, 0-6 L&C) with a 23-5 first quarter and 36-11 first half. The Lady Coyotes made eight 3-pointers and forced 29 Scotland County turnovers while being led by Reese Sutton’s 17 points and eight rebounds, and Melanie Moore’s 12 points and three 3-pointers.
Paris led after the first quarter against Westran (17-7, 4-3 L&C) as well, owning a 17-14 early advantage, but were beaten in rebounding 34-16 (16-7 offensive). Westran shot worse than the Lady Coyotes at a 35 percent clip — compared to Paris’ 40 percent — and relied on Shayla Aldridge’s 23 points and 10 rebounds. Moore led Paris with 13 points, and Sutton followed with 12 points, six rebounds and four steals.
Paris begins its Class 2 District 5 tournament at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 19 against Silex (10-12) at Louisiana.
