Opposing offenses always had to be aware of where Paris’ Owen Totten was on the field.
The senior defensive end made it obvious where he would be next season as he signed to play football for NAIA school Culver-Stockton College in Canton.
“He works hard in the weight room, on the practice field, in the classroom and outside of school,” Totten’s head coach Joseph Utterback said. “(Thursday was) all about Owen and his family and his teammates. I couldn't be happier for him.”
Totten ended his high school career with yet another all-Lewis and Clark Conference nod along with a Coyote Football team MVP award but also earned all-state honors for the first time. He was on that trajectory this season as he tallied five sacks in the opening game against Grandview prior to finishing with 97 tackles and 11 sacks.
“Going into I think it was his sophomore year, his mom stopped me in the parking lot and said Owen had a dream to play college football,” Utterback said. “She asked me if I thought that was possible, and without hesitation, I told her yes.”
Totten plans to study ag business while he plays on a gridiron for the Wildcats, which are two things Totten loves, Utterback said.
“Owen has been one of those kids that have everything you need to be successful,” Utterback said. “He works hard and does the right thing and is a great example of how to practice our core values to all of these young guys.”
