Party planned for Chief Rockett

The city of Mexico will get a chance to celebrate former Public Safety Chief Susan Rockett at a retirement send-off party this Saturday.

The celebration will be from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Mexico Chamber of Commerce on the square. Rockett told the Ledger she will have some guests from out of town visiting but most of all she hopes to see some of the folks she led for the last 14 years as the department’s chief. She said her proudest moments as chief were watching her folks in action.

“They really have worked way above their weight class,” Rockett said. “They have done some great things considering that we’re a small town and dealing with the resources we have. They got some pretty big crimes solved.”

Rockett plans on doing some light traveling but will spend most of her time in retirement just being a member of the community. There are no big plans for her future.

“I’m not going on a European vacation or anything like that,” Rockett said. “Doing nothing and not being responsible for anything,” Rocket said are her big plans. “For the first time in my life, I’m going to come and go as I please. I’m not going on a European vacation or anything like that.”

Rockett is also excited to see what the future brings for the next chief Brice Mesko who was named last week to replace Rockett.

“Brice is one of the most capable people that I’ve ever worked with,” Rockett said. “I have nothing but the utmost respect for him and the great things he will continue to do here.”

Rockett grew up in Missouri before making her way to the Chicago area. Rockett returned to Missouri to take the position as chief in Mexico and she said her career couldn’t have ended in a better place.

“I really did take this job as being one of the greatest honors of my life and I have enjoyed every bit of it,” Rockett said.
