There was a huge turnout for the 17th annual Mexico Young Farmers Truck and Tractor Pull Saturday evening at the Audrain County 4-H Fairgrounds. Although inclement weather cut the fun short, there was still plenty of time for fans to enjoy the entertainment. Rough estimates indicate over 2,000 people came out to see ten classes from the Eastern Missouri Truck Pullers Association and the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League compete on two tracks.
According to local Mexico Young Farmers advisor, Ted DeVault, the organization is primarily educational in nature. However, 11 years ago, they decided to hold the inaugural truck and tractor pull as a new way to bring family fun to the area and raise money for local students and organizations.
“We’re all about trying to give back”, said DeVault.
In the past the organization has even used its funds to sponsor a soldier and family at Christmas and donate money to improve the fairgrounds.
This year’s proceeds will go to the Mexico Young Farmers Scholarship Fund, Mexico Young Farmers, Mexico FFA, and the Audrain County Cattlemen.
