Renae Peggy (Best) Thomas, 74, San Antonio, Texas and formerly Mexico, passed away at home on Thurs., Feb. 8, 2024, following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Renae was born in Muscatine, Iowa, July 28, 1949, the daughter of Elmer and Gertrude (Stecher) Best.  Her life was a testament to hard work, love, and an unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those around her.  She graduated from Durant High School, Durant, Iowa, in 1967, and Northeast Missouri State University with a B.S. and a M.A. in Education.  Renae married David Arthur Thomas on July 30, 1983.

Renae’s true calling came in the field of education, where she dedicated 36 years of her life as a teacher.  Renae's impact extended beyond the classroom, as she formed lifelong friendships with colleagues and continued to cherish those connections long after her retirement.  Her passion for education reflected her innate desire to better the lives of those around her.

In her leisure time, Renae found joy in interior design and staging houses, showcasing her creative flair.  Family was paramount to Renae, and she cherished moments spent on trips, particularly enjoying Caribbean cruises, sandy beaches, and indulging in her love for shopping.

Renae’s caring and nurturing spirit knew no bonds.  Always ready to lend a helping hand, she touched the lives of many with her generosity and  kindness.  A devoted wire, sister, grandmother, and mother, Renae leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will endure in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.

Renae is preceded in death by her parents, infant brother Denis, and sister-in-law Adrienne Thomas.  She is survived by her loving husband, David, her sons Aaron and his wife Cristina, and Brad and his wife Sadonya.  She is also survived by her adored grandchildren Turner, Isabella, and Samantha, as well as her sister Patricia and her husband Ralph, her brother Daryl and his wife Kay, and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Steve and Theresa Thomas, and five nephews and a niece.

Funeral services were held  March 12, at the Shrine of Padre Pio, San Antonio, Texas.
