After a competitive internal selection process, the Mexico Public Safety Department is proud to announce that Stuart J Thompson III has been promoted to major and will start as the department's assistant chief effective Monday, July 17. Major Thompson started with the department in 2002 but left to work for the Columbia Police Department for a short time in 2008, before returning to MPSD. Major Thompson was most recently a lieutenant with the department and is a certified Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) and a NHTSA certified instructor of Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. In February, he graduated from the 529th class of the School of Police Staff and Command at Northwestern University, which provides upper-level college instruction in law enforcement leadership.
