Mexico, Community R-6, Van-Far and North Callaway were among the 15 schools competing Tuesday night at the Thunderbird High School Invitational in Kingdom City.

Mexico was highlighted by Tyler Grimes winning the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2:06.77 and being part of the winning 4x400 relay team with Jordan Shelton, Morgan Grubb and Anthony Shivers. Community, Van-Far and North Callaway had others earn medals in the top four places in respective events.

Other winners for Mexico included Shelton won the long jump, Grubb won the pole vault, and Thomas Peuster won the 3200. The boys finished fourth with 92 points as Harrisburg won both team titles with 124 points on the boys side and 105.33 points on the girls side. Grimes, Peuster, Davontae Frame and Guy Fairchild were second in the 4x800 relay, Shivers was third in the 100-meter dash, Andrew Peuster finished third in the 3200 and Shelton was fourth in the high jump.

The girls had Alexandra Terry finish second in the pole vault with a new personal-best of 2.6 meters (8’6.25), Maggie Ramsey take second in the 3200 and third in the 1600, and the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams also were second. Ramsey was part of the 4x800 team with Viviana Benjamin, Emma Seibert and Sidney Turlington and Terry took part in the 4x400 team with Turlington, Alexis Smythe and Ella Raines. Benjamin and Smythe each earned fourth in the 800 and 200, respectively.

Community had Adriana Woodson as its highest finisher as he took second in the 300-meter hurdles while Gavin Allen had the Trojan boys’ best finish by taking third in the shot put. Victoria DiSalvo also medaled in the 300 hurdles by finishing third.

Van-Far had Brooklyn Forman's third-place girls 800-meter run finish as its best performance while the 4x800 relay team of Forman, Madelynn Caldwell, Abbie Shelton and Trinity Skwirtz finished third.

The North Callaway boys had Caleb Rohrbach win the shot put and several second-place finishes from Isiah Craighead in the javelin and Tristan Young in the pole vault and third-place marks by Brendan Reinhard in the high jump, Levi Drake in the 800 and the 4x800 relay team. Among the fourth-place finishers were Clayton Moore in the 800, Dillon Higgenbotham in the 300 hurdles, Carson Safranski in the pole vault, and the 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams. The boys finished third with 92.75 points. 

For the girls, Pressley Schmauch won the 3200 while runners-up included Corynne Miller in the 100, Kymorie Myers in the discus and Ellie Bedsworth in the shot put. Finishing third were Miller in the 200 and Jalyn Leible in the triple jump as part of the Ladybirds' fifth-place team finish with 76 points. Taking fourth were Lia Bondurant in the high jump, Faith Cash in the javelin, and 4x100 and 4x800 relay teams.

Centralia girls near sweep of relays secures home meet title

The Centralia girls were strong as a team on Tuesday night at home.

In the school’s second home meet — the Centralia Invitational — of the season, the girls won the team title with 186 points, winning three of four relay events along with six other events. The boys were the runner-up with 105 points compared to Bowling Green’s 193 points as the Panthers won two events.

The girls were victorious in the 4x100-, 4x200- and 4x800-meter relays as the 4x100 team included Olivia Adams, Autumn Hawkins, Kaelyn Walters and Becca Erisman; the 4x200 team had Harper Sontheimer, Hawkins, Walters and Shelby Lewis; and the 4x800 team contained Kenedee Moss, Rylee Palmer, Erisman and Jozelynn Bostick. Lewis won the 200- and 400-meter dash, Bostick took the 800-meter run, Sontheimer won the 100-meter hurdles, Cora King had the top mark in the shot put and Annie Robinson won the javelin.

Finishing second for the Lady Panthers were the 4x400 team of Adams, Robinson, Sontheimer and Lewis finished second, Bostick in the 3200, Sontheimer in the 300 hurdles, and Harper Forshee in the javelin. Taking third were Moss in the 800, Bostick in the 1600, Risman in the 300 hurdles, Hawkins in the long jump, Kaylie Ensor in the pole vault, and Ellie Berendzen in the discus.

JR Lesher and Payton Mabrey led the boys with wins in the 3200 and shot put, respectively, and Lesher in the 1600 was also among the team’s second-place finishes, Others that finished second included Cayden Dunn in the 110 and 300 hurdles, and Lesher, Dryst Bostick, Rohan Holiman and Landon Moss in the 4x800 relay. Taking third was the 4x200 relay team.
