Trojans endure until walk-off hit, 5-4 win vs New Franklin

Community R-6 made its mistakes on Monday at home against Central Activities Conference foe New Franklin, which has prevented the Trojans from even coming close to defeating the Bulldogs in previous years. That wasn't the case this year as the Trojans came back from a 4-1 deficit to walk off New Franklin for their first win against the Bulldogs in program history.

“We missed multiple bunts, we missed multiple balls in the outfield that were somewhat routine and we were giving them plays,” head coach Joel Krato said. “Before the game, I gave a speech about the word endure — overcoming suffering and pain, knowing there is something good on the other side. They’ll probably going to score first because they’re the away team, and they have a good offensive team. Can we endure for seven innings?”

Senior Gavin Allen finished 3-for-4 with two RBI, including the game-winning one on a walk-off double. His fellow senior Ayden Meranda scored the winning run after leading off the seventh inning with a single and a half inning after making a diving catch in center field. Senior Pacey Cope went 2-for-3.

On the mound, Mason Carroll shrugged off four unearned runs to strike out eight Bulldogs through seven innings.
