The Van-Far boys had already proven capable of defeating Eastern Missouri Conference and district foe Clopton this season.
That first meeting was a 62-46 victory for the Bowling Green tournament championship, but the Indians followed that with a 70-56 win on Friday at home in a conference game, moving Van-Far’s conference record to 7-1 and Clopton’s to an identical 7-1.
Clopton (18-6) shot better from 3-point territory this time and trailed Van-Far 28-23 at halftime and as few as six points in the second half until Nikos Connaway hit a key 3-pointer and the Indians increased their lead to 18. Connaway finished with 30 points on 11-for-15 shooting and five steals, Pacey Reading followed with 17 points and Carson Huff had 10 points.
Van-Far (19-5) was told recently it has the No. 1 seed in the Class 2 District 5 tournament to be played in a week at Clopton in Clarksville. The Indians play the winner of Sturgeon and Paris at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 22.
