After bringing in a golf simulator, the Mexico Area Family YMCA, 1127 Adams Street, is going to let visitors have a go on the greens.
According to sports director Caleb Floyd, the YMCA has not run many programs with the simulator, and it’s been mainly used for members only.
“We did use the space for a week of Golf Camp earlier this summer,” Floyd said. “The golf orientation dates/times we have coming up help our staff get through more orientations effectively. We will be offering a Fall Golf League using our simulator, information and registration for that league will be out in the coming weeks.”
It all starts 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday when the YMCA will host a group orientation for the golf simulator featuring YMCA members and another session follows 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The free events will allow interested persons to get acquainted with the simulator as the colder months approach.
“Our simulator provides a fun and easy golf experience with a quick rate of play,” Floyd said. “We have over 30 courses to choose from along with multiple driving range options. The system offers different modes of play depending on the number of players using the room.”
The YMCA got the simulator on June 1 and it has been a definite draw to the club.
“Our members can be seen playing at all times of the day, but so far our busiest days are rainy days,” Floyd said. “We anticipate the reservation book to fill up faster once the weather breaks.”
“It is in our mission to build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. As we embrace non-traditional forms of recreation, growing requests for virtual or E-sport like activity has encouraged us to look for ways to provide recreational opportunities for our community to reach a more diverse membership. Our virtual Golf Simulator is a one of a kind feature locally that will offer more services to our current membership”.
