The annual Community Teachers Association (CTA) Turkey Turnover Dinner took place this year on Monday, February 19th after being rescheduled due to winter weather postponing the basketball games that the dinner is held in conjunction with. The Turkey Turnover Dinner has been held since 1967 to help raise funds for scholarships that are awarded to graduating seniors with a special interest in furthering their studies after high school in the field of education. The dinner profited a little over $1,750 this year.
CTA members tried something a little different this year by providing different locations where tickets could be purchased. In the past, teachers were solely responsible for selling tickets. Tickets were sold at Moser’s, Show-Me Credit Union, and United Credit Union during the month of January. Ticket sales were advertised on KXEO, Facebook, and around town by posted flyers. They were also sold at home basketball games during that time. Tickets must be pre-purchased because of the love and time that goes into making each one of these little pieces of Mexico tradition.
Mexico alumni remember the anticipation of the fall and winter seasons when turkey turnovers were on the menus in Mexico schools and share that tradition with the younger generation as they buy their tickets for the Turkey Turnover Dinner. Then each year, a crowd of folks of all ages dress up in their Bulldog gear and line up before the basketball games, and suddenly clear out when it is time to go cheer on the team. CTA would like to thank the Mexico community for their support this year and hopes they will continue to support their efforts for years to come.
